How To: De-Stress Your Stress

Many of us have hectic day-to-day schedules. Between work, home, and the kids its hard to find the time to even think straight sometimes. Too much stress can cause anxiety and tension, which can be harmful to our health. Knowing a few simple de-stress strategies can help you feel better.

  • Forgive- when you hold grudges and leave situations on bad terms, the situation will play in your head over and over again.
  • Kiss- give your hubby or special someone a kiss everyday, it releases endorphins! Isolation can cause anxiety and stress.
  • Don’t Over Do It- working out is great, but if your under a lot of stress a vigorous workout may just add to it. Try going for a walk or jog.
  • Video Games- play a video game with your kid, it will help distract you and give your mind a break. It will also be fun!
  • Time-Out- kids aren’t the only ones who need a time-out once in a while. Close your eyes and escape from reality, go for a walk on a nice day and enjoy what nature has to offer.
  • ME TIME- we tend to neglect ourselves more than we realize. Spend the day alone or with a close friend and do something exciting! Find an outside activity, go get massages, or watch a funny movie.

Oscar Trends & Best Dressed Celebs

The 2012 Academy Awards was flowing with dazzling trends and spectacular fashion. Here are a few of our favorites!

Cameron Diaz looked beautiful in her shimmering gown while wearing a diamond choker, which was a popular trend on the red carpet this year.

Emma Stone looked absolutely stunning in her red gown, a crowd-pleasing red carpet color.

Angelina Jolie’s beautiful soft curls gave her high slit provocative gown a soft and elegant look.

Rooney Mara wore her hair in a bun with thick, straight bangs that ended right above her eyebrows (another favored look on the red carpet). It was perfect to go with her simple, elegant, white gown (a top choice for gown color this year). She rocked both trends beautifully!

Missi Pyle, along with a few others, wore a gown with one shoulder that draped down her arm. The dress and color she chose were gorgeous and looked fantastic on her!

Dine with Diana Friday: Jump on the Bandwagon with Kale Chips

Lately, I’ve become addicted to those roasted seaweed packs in the health food aisle of my local deli. They are roasted sheets of seaweed and they’ve become a staple for me. They meet the salty and crunchy criteria of potato chips, but are way healthier.

So, you can imagine my delight when the latest craze to make your own kale chips hit the scene. They are similar but better and even healthier than my packaged seaweed. And, I have control over what and how much I put on them.  Less sea salt one day, more olive oil the next; get out the really nice truffle oil for the ones I make just for hubs and me.

Even my non-green food eating 2.5 year old will eat them. Now that’s a miracle!

Everyone who has come through my door has loved them. Yes, everyone. From Nepal to England and Mississippi to Chicago; from toddler to teen and adults of all ages, kale chips make everyone happy!

Have fun and be creative with your own kale chips this weekend and comment here so you can tell me if you added anything special to personalize them? We want to hear!

Xo,

Diana

Kale Chips

Ingredients:

  •  Fresh kale- organic is even better if you can find it. It should be so dark green that its almost blue! It kind of looks like dark Romaine lettuce
  •  Olive oil to taste
  • Course sea salt to taste
  • Be creative —other salts or seasonings or oils you love can be used

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 425°
  2. Wash and dry the kale leaves. You’ll need to spread them out on paper towels and let dry for a while —otherwise you end up with soggy chips
  3. Line a large baking pan with heavy duty aluminum foil —helps make clean up super easy later
  4. Break out the thick part of the stem of each kale leave and tear into pieces —larger pieces work best since they shrink and shrivel in the oven
  5. Lay one layer of leaves onto the baking pan
  6.  Drizzle with olive oil- or flavored oil of choice –go light– you can always add more later and the kale really tends to hold on to the oil
  7. Sprinkle with course sea salt —again go light —I’ve made mine too salty a time or two
  8. Bake in 425° oven for a bout 12 minutes –they will start turning almost black, but that is ok —they should be crunchy not soggy. More time may be required

Learn With Your Kids!

As a parent you play the part of a superhero, a dog, a monster but this weekend, I played a truly excited parent, discovering things for the first time with my son. We took our son to his first children’s museum. He got to explore a new place, built for people his size, with anything and everything that he could want in one space. Things to touch, to smell, to hear and in Jack’s case, to taste!

I forgot how much fun it can be to experience things for the first time with a child. Jack reminded me this weekend that there is always time in life to relax, breathe and just enjoy the simple things in life, despite what is going on outside of those four walls.

Jack was obsessed with this air blowing machine, where you press a button and it blows air straight up and a plastic globe is propelled into the air. He went back to it three or four times and just stared. My husband and I laughed hysterically and quickly forgot that to him, this was brand new; he looked at us with this face that said, “Are you seeing this too?!” We loved every minute.

Next time you see your child in a new situation or in a new place, don’t just notice the wonderment in their eyes, experience it with them. Genuinely throw yourself into their world; laugh with them, learn with them, create memories with them and if they are old enough, keep the discussion going after the activity is over. Remind them how exciting your day was and ask them to recall their favorite part. If they seem very interested in something particular, foster it. Find books on the topic, research online and find other activities centered on this interest.

Celebrity Parents Weigh In to CelebrityBabyScoop: The Pros & Cons Of The Paparazzi

There are some experiences that are unique to celebrity parents alone.

Sure, there’s the perks of full-time nannies, house cleaners and gourmet chefs! But with the fame, comes the invasion of privacy…and the paparazzi. Whether they’re waiting at LAX for the jet-setting Beckham family-of-six, or following Heidi Klum and her kids to a local playground, the shutterbugs are never too far from the perfect snapshot. But how do celebrity families deal with their daily presence?

Read about 5 high-profile couples who weigh in on the pros and cons of the paparazzi.

Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale:

Rockstar parents Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have been outspoken about the ever-present paparazzi in their daily lives. The mom-of-two boys – Kingston, 5, and Zuma, 3 – recently admitted there are good and bad parts about having the paparazzi follow her and the family around.

“What’s nice is even though they’re annoying, these guys that follow us around, it’s really nice having all these family photos!, Gwen said.”

The singer/fashion designer also said she worries about the possible dangers of raising her family in Tinseltown.

“The kids, their privacy, a responsibility for them and not knowing if this is going to ruin their lives,” Gwen contemplated about their high-profile life. “They’re so exposed and they don’t have a choice – that scares me a lot. But I think it’s going to be fine,” Gwen added. “My children are very loved. Hopefully, they’re going to grow up and not be crazy because of it. I don’t think there are that many sacrifices – I really don’t want it all to go away.”

Gavin has also talked about the lurking presence of the paparazzi in their day-to-day lives.

“We haven’t found the words to explain it,” Gavin said of explaining the paps to their sons. “I’ll want to take my kid to the beach, and there’s six grown men chasing us. He’s running around in his underwear as every child should, and I have to go up to them and say, ‘Can you not photograph my son running around in his underwear?’”

That being said, the Bush rocker can’t deny that the shutterbugs can take amazing snapshots from time to time. He recalled a conversation with his mother Lucy who praised the paps for a sweet shot of her gorgeous grandson.

“She goes, ‘I saw a great picture of you guys.’ I played a show in L.A. and there’s a picture of Kingston at the sound mixer – he’s wearing a Rasta hat, he’s got sunglasses on and he’s got a microphone that’s switched off – but he’s singing. My mom’s like, ‘Did you see that picture? That was the best picture!’ I was like, ‘Yeah, it was a paparazzi picture.’ And she says, ‘Yeah, but if we didn’t have that we wouldn’t see what you’re doing.’”

Celeb Moms Share Their Favorite Bedtime Stories

David & Victoria Beckham:

Whether in Europe or North America, power couple David and Victoria Beckham are more than well acquainted with the paparazzi. How does Posh and Becks deal with the nonstop presence of the paps? The mom-of-four said she tries to boost her kids’ self-esteem when explaining the shutterbugs.

“I don’t complain about paparazzi because I’ve put myself in that position, and so has David,” Victoria said. “But I always say to the boys, someone is going to take your picture because you’re handsome or you’re smart or because you’re so good at soccer. But every now and again, Romeo might pick up one of David’s cameras and say, ‘Victoria, Victoria, over here!’ And his attitude is sort of angry.”

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes:

While most stars have a rocky relationship with the paparazzi especially when their children are being photographed, Tom Cruise said how much he admires some of the shots taken of his beautiful daughter Suri, 5, with wife Katie Holmes.

“I have to say some of those paparazzi shots of my daughter are incredible,” Tom said. “As a parent you protect your children but Suri is a very open and warm child and she will just wave to people on the street. She is such [a] happy, fun girl. It is certainly different these days with the media, but people have been very good to us and do give us space so I am not going to be difficult.”

Favorite Celeb Baby Gear: Strollers, Fashion, Blankets & Beyond

Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott:

Reality TV stars Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott – parents to son Liam, 4, and daughtersStella, 3, and Hattie, 3 months – recently sat down with Celebrity Baby Scoop and weighed in about the “fine line” that the paparazzi walk in their high-profile lives.

“It’s a fine line,” Tori said. “I know it comes with the territory. I’m OK with it when the paparazzi don’t cross the line. When they came to the school, to me that crossed the line. We tell them to please stay away from the front of our house. It’s all about the safety of our children. If we’re out at the market or shopping with the kids, that’s fine. Do you know what we say to them all the time? We say, ‘Take your picture and let us be.’ And sometimes they’ll just stand in front of you walking and take like 100 photos. It’s like, ‘You’ve got your photo, why don’t you just go and we can go on and have somewhat of a private day.’ I wish there was that kind of a compromise,” she said. “A lot of them are great, but a lot of them you can’t reason with. So what can you do? And the fun and innocent pictures of the kids online I think are cute. Babies are cute – kids are cute!”

Heidi Klum & Seal:

Recently separated power couple, Heidi Klum and Seal, always cause a commotion when they’re spotted out and about with their four children: Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2. The mom-of-four opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about the “not-so-convenient” paparazzi and how they sometimes cause other moms to break out the “stink eye.”

“I wouldn’t say they drive me nuts all the time,” Heidi said of the paparazzi. “Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It always depends on the day and where we are and what we’re doing. It definitely is a little bit not-so-convenient when you’re just doing normal things.” She added: “I understand the purpose of them when you go to an event and you’re on the red carpet. The press is there to document and show people what you’re doing. But I think that when you’re out with your family…. you’re at the park, and then you get all the stink eye from all the other moms! I just think ‘Really why is this happening? Why are all these people here and taking photos of our children which is really putting us in an inconvenience?!’”

The model mom went on to talk about the negative impact their shutterbugs can have on their kids.

“The other moms always give me the stink eye, and then I feel bad,” Heidi said. “So half of the time I will just leave and go somewhere else. You don’t feel too good about those moments when you get stink eye from all the other moms. And the thing is, we don’t understand half of the time what is so interesting about the same photos of us at the park. My children are just like other children too and they love going to the park.”

Heidi went on to say she still hasn’t found the right words on how to explain the paps and their nonstop presence to her young children.

“It’s hard to explain!,” she said. “Thank goodness they haven’t asked that much about it yet. I haven’t been in the situation yet where I have to explain. They look and they see people taking photos, but they don’t really ask too much about it. They’re still little and I hopefully still have a little bit more time to figure out exactly how to explain to them.”

How To: Look Like You Got A Full Night’s Sleep

Being a mommy is a full time job and by full time we mean 24/7! Moms do not always get the amount of sleep a night that they desire. Whether your baby is constantly waking up during the night or your toddler wont sleep in their own bed you may wake up in the morning and look like you haven’t slept in a week…or two. Say BYE-BYE to those puffy eyes and dull looking skin with these four tricks!

1. Hydrating Mist- It gets your blood flowing by opening your capillaries. Spritz your face and let it soak in for a least a minute or two.

2. Massage- Puffy eyes are caused by pooled tears. Massage (with the pads of your fingers) from the inner, lower eyelids outward to your temples. From your temples move over your cheeks and down your neck. Repeat this three to five times.

3. Highlighter- It will help your face look brighter. Apply it below the outer corners of the eyes, along the top of your cheekbones. Light will grab onto the highlighter to brighten your skin!

4. Bold Blush- A bright blush applied to the apples of your cheeks will give you a natural glow. Try a peach or reddish tone.
