Spring 2011 Hair Trends Straight Off the Runway

It may not feel like it, but spring is just around the corner and with the season changing, so are hair trends.  This spring there will be an abundance of new trends.  Some are subtle and some are a little outside-the-box or perhaps we should say “outside-the-ponytail”.  Browse through our tips and decide what’s best for you.

The Low Bun: Simple and easy to do.  It keeps the hair out of your face but still looks cool.  Start with a center part and then pull hair into a low ponytail.  Twist the ponytail into a loose knot.  Keep it loose and let the ends stick out because a too-tight bun will make you look like a librarian and no one wants that.

The Side Part: The side part goes extreme this spring, but it works on long and short hair, as well as straight and curly hair.  Regardless of your political views, you can part your hair to the far left of extreme right side.  Take a comb and separate the hair to either side of the “line”.  This is best done with damp hair.  Spritz with a little hair spray so that the hair stays in place.  You can pull the hair into a low, sleek ponytail or secure with some bobby pins.

Jane Birkin Bangs: Hermes named their coveted handbag after her – the Birkin bag.  She’s a fashion icon, so why wouldn’t her hairstyle be a trend?  Bangs should be heavy and the sides are slightly longer.  Bangs should also be below the eyebrows. Due to the heaviness of the bangs, the remainder of your hair should fall at least an inch below your shoulders.

Punky Short Cut: This short, messy, punk-inspired hair cut is huge on the runways for the spring.  The best way to sport this style is by using texturizing spray when the hair is wet, then follow with a wax-based styling product once the hair is dry.  The most versatile way to get this look is with extra length on top.

The Swoop:  Simple and easy, this look is hitting the runways for big names like Louis Vuitton.  Loosely pin your bangs to the side with bobby pins or a barrette.  Spritz a little hairspray or dry shampoo for hold and voila, you’re runway ready!

Try something new for the new season and see how your family reacts!
